Stelis ciliolata
Native to Ecuador, this plant is found at higher elevations and requires, therefore, cool temperatures in cultivation. Its name, ciliolata, refers to the striking white "hairs" that fringe the sepals. The plant is 12 cm tall with flower spikes that grow to about 20 cm. The spikes carry 15 or more 1.5 cm flowers, several of which may be open at a time, and the spikes bloom over a long period. The plant, as a result, is seldom out of bloom.

Wild Orchid..not a flower..
I've been posted about orchid themed songs before, now here's another post that is not exactly about the flowers, but of a female group back in the 90's.. This was because they named their trio Wild Orchid. Maybe the significance of choosing the name has to do with their image and wild orchid in nature.., sexy and beautiful..Though the groups doesn't last long, they do have their hit songs. But one of the group member, Fergie has become one of the major star in entertainment today..after she joined the group Black Eyed Peas..more info about them here
There is no road of flowers leading to glory
Their first Album

Here's a couple of video of their most famous hit songs..

Flashy Splashy !
Mutations in orchids is quite common, especially nowadays with the advancement of horticultural technologies. Orchid breeders will try to make a new hybrid with many crossings and recrossings. As a results will produce a new flower variety. Mutations sometimes happens naturally or man-made. Mutations in orchids will make one particular flower unique, though they seem abnormal than their usual type. This abnormalities makes them rare and special, so they are highly desirable. Mutations can happen in shape/form, colours of the flower and even leaves (variegated).
Flowers are happy things.
Dendrobiums, specially the hybrids has long been known to have a mutational type in terms of their colours. Usually they comes in 'splashy' stripes. Their original colour for example purple, breaks into irregular lines in different tones and lengths. Some are well contrasted while others are subtle. In this post I will only put the flower with a 'splash' kind of mutation..

For my foreign visitors, Taiping is an old town in the State of Perak, Malaysia..very historic atmosphere here, with lots of colonial buildings and lush green scenery. Here's a bit more info about Taiping
